From 1 January 2024 the network of specified road sections is going to expand by 17 new sections. On the contrary, for 10 sections, the validity is going to be terminated. For a total of 53 sections, there will be various adjustments that need to be taken into account in the toll system so that carriers are charged the accurate amount of tolls.
Processing the adjustments in the list of specified road sections is a complex project. The map data of the satellite toll system need to be updated, the new toll sections need to be defined and functionally tested, and their optimization needs to be carried out. Last but not least, the new geomodel needs to be uploaded to more than 330,000 on-board units in vehicles under full operation.
Charging for the section of the northern Prešov bypass (R4) is going to be introduced as of 1 January 2024. The section was opened in September 2023. Toll charging adjustments on the I/68 road, where the Plavnica bypass was opened in June, are related to the new construction as well. Here too, toll charging will start on the new road as of 1 January 2024. The changes to the specified road sections are related, among other things, to the adjustment of the category of a part of the R1a road in Nitra to the 1st category road I/51.
Following all the adjustments, including those that do not affect the amount of toll payment (sections charged with zero-rate), the number of specified road sections is going to increase by 7 to 2,011 as of 1 January 2024.
